Job Description

We are currently seeking a motivated, career and customer oriented Senior Linux System Administrator to join our team at Scott AFB, IL, to begin an exciting and challenging career with Unisys Federal Systems. 

In this role you will:

  • 7 + Years of System Admibistration - Preferably in Linux Environment
  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems on servers, to include web servers, and workstations in support of business processing requirements. Perform software installations, upgrades, and troubleshooting to operating systems and layered software packages.
  • Schedule installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. Monitor and tune the system to achieve optimum performance levels.
  • Ensure workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.
  • Ensure data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations. Support media Management through internal methods and procedures or through offsite storage and retrieval services.
  • Conduct routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  • Develop and maintains a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation.  

Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of hardware, software, and network connectivity
  • Demonstrate a methodical approach to work activities 
  • Possess a strong attention to detail 
  • Communicate (verbal and written) effectively with teams, peers, and management 
  • Create or modify documentation (i.e. process, procedures, standards, etc.)
  • Experience with Virtualization Technology (VMWare, HyperV, etc.) 
  • Experience with Windows Servers and Workstations preferred. 
  • Experience with Linux Systems preferred; to include scripting, monitoring, troubleshooting 
  • Familiarity with the following: 
  • SQL Server, MySQL RDBMS, to include SQL 
  • Open source web server and servlet containers (e.g. Apache Tomcat)
  • Open source enterprise portlet projects (e.g. Liferay) 
  • Open source code repositories (e.g. Git) 
  • Business process modeling platforms (e.g. WebMethods)

Position Requirements:

  • DOD Secret Clearance
  • Security+ Certification (upon arrival)
  • Foundations of ITIL Certification (upon arrival)
  • Linux Training Certificate (upon hire)


  • Bachelor's degree in math, computer science, information systems, or engineering desired and a minimum 8 years of experience
